Saturday. Sleeping Beauty.

Saturday morning, Nurse Rosemary gave me my bath and got me smelling (no more stinky patch!) and looking all pretty. She rearranged my area and organized everything for easy access. She spent all morning with me and by the time family came, I was very sleepy and Nurse Rosemary was very hungry and needed her break! She promised to stay with me through the weekend, so I am a very happy little girl! She really liked the new music projector that Nurse Michele bought for me to have during the nightshift-it projects stars and lights on the ceiling! Thankyou, Nurse Michele!
Saturday Morning - Nurse Rosemary back from Vacation!
First Site Posting of Wound Area.

Hope this isn't too graphic, but wanted family to see the "open wound" area for the first time. It looks very good in comparison to previously. You can see here on the right how the skin has already grown over her open intestinal area. The white patch is where the area is still exposed. The bottom left is exposed but showing a thin layer of skin starting to cover it. God is good. He is the ultimate doctor. Please continue to pray with us that the wound area & Gabbie stays free from infection.

Surgery Went Well!

Hello Family. Sorry that this update is a day late. Gabbie came through surgery well w/o any issues. Gortex patch was removed and no infection was found. Gabbie's skin had already started growing & covering the wound-the surgeon was pleasantly surprised, we understand. Wound care began almost immediately and will continue with application of medicated cremes and daily care, as before. As far as is known, the surgery was about 1.5 hrs and so was her recovery time. However, after recovery, she did not awaken during the 2 hrs of family visits. A new central line was put in today (Friday afternoon) by Dr. Green, her Primary Neonatologist, and Gabbie has been doing well all day. Mom is currently at the hospital for a lengthy visit tonight. Will update you as more is known. Thankyou for all the email responses of prayers and support. We know that we can count on our family and friends to be there for us.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: SURGERY TOMORROW.
Family: We have just been notified that Gabbie's surgeon would like to take her to surgery tomorrow morning (Thursday, August 28th) at 9:30a. The mesh protective layer on her stomach needs to be removed in order to avoid any impending infections. It is getting odorous & it is his opinion that this foreign object needs to be removed at some point. Josh feels that the time is now. Teresa & I aren't as willing to see her go through any kind of surgery again, however, we all know that God is in control and she is in His (and the angels) hands. The downside is that any surgery for her is very risky & life threatening. We are asking that God guide the surgeons hands tomorrow & allow Gabbie to come through this ordeal safely and with peace in her little spirit. We ask our family to rally around us & lift up this precious baby girl in faith & prayer. We will notify immediate family as soon as possible and the website will be updated tomorrow evening. Our love and thanks go out to you all.

A New "Pod" for Gabbie.
Gabbie's old "pod" (room) had to be cleaned, so she is now in a bigger, more spacious space with a bigger window and better view. She has now began to notice all the great pictures on her wall that Angelina (and family) have drawn for her over the past 7 months. Maura: send Gabbie out a picture when you get a chance!

A Big Thank You From the Mayo Family.

The Mayo Family wants to take this moment in time and express our deepest thanks to our wonderful and giving family who always seem to be there for us at God's perfect time. We appreciate & always feel your thoughts and prayers-without them, we just couldn't keep up our strength. We appreciate the gifts-from toys, bedding items & clothing to cash, that helps us out with our weekly $150 expenses in gas for our everyday trip to the hospital. Now that Gabbie is very alert and aware-it is important, more than ever, that we be there for her everyday. The doctors say that without her family support, Gabbie wouldn't be thriving the way she is. We give God the glory for such a supportive extended family. Going one step farther, without such good caregivers (angels!), Gabbie would not be where she is today. Again, we know that God is in control. We are always believing and hoping for a miracle-daily and beyond. We so much appreciate every day, every moment with our special miracle girl, Gabriella Christina. Thank you, family, friends & caregivers.
My Special Friend.
